Molly Drake, born Molly Lloyd, was a British poet and musician who is probably best known as the mother of singer-songwriter, Nick Drake. Molly Drake was born on October 5, 1915 in Rangoon, Burma (now Myanmar) and grew up in England. She married Rodney Drake in 1937 and they had two children, Gabrielle and Nick.
Molly Drake was an accomplished musician and poet in her own right. She wrote and recorded a number of songs in the 1950s and 1960s, but never actively pursued a professional career in music or poetry. Still, many of her recordings were rediscovered and posthumously released in 2013 on the album “Molly Drake.”
Molly Drake’s music is often compared to that of her son Nick*. (June 19, 1948 – November 25, 1974) Nick Drake’s music was relatively obscure during his lifetime, but has since grown in popularity and critical acclaim.
Molly Drake died on June 4, 1993, at the age of 77. Her music and poetry have continued to gain recognition in the years since her death, and she is now considered an important figure in the British folk music scene of the mid-20th century.

Nick Drake was born on June 19, 1948, in Rangoon, Burma (now Yangon, Myanmar) and died on November 25, 1974, in Tanworth-in-Arden, England. He was a highly influential singer-songwriter who released three albums during his lifetime: “Five Leaves Left” (1969), “Bryter Layter” (1970), and “Pink Moon” (1972).
Despite critical acclaim, Drake’s music did not achieve commercial success during his lifetime. He struggled with depression and other mental health issues, and his death at the age of 26 was attributed to an overdose of antidepressants. However, his music has since gained a devoted following and has been cited as an influence by many musicians.
